Cyprus Pink Slip

The Cypriot Pink Slip (visitor permit) is a temporary, renewable residence permit for one year, exclusively for non-EU citizens.

Although some parties simply label this a “visitor visa,” it is in reality the way for remote workers, retirees, and investors to non-dom status activate

To obtain this, you must demonstrate a stable foreign income of at least €24,000 per year and open a local bank account.

Because opening a Cypriot bank account as a non-resident is currently a bureaucratic nightmare, Cyprus-Consult uses its own banking network to speed up your process, from the bank deposit to the final immigration application.

What is the Cyprus Pink Slip?

Most law firms view the Cyprus Pink Slip as a standard immigration document for tourists staying in Cyprus for more than 90 days. We see it differently: it is a strategic instrument for asset management.

Officially, the Cyprus Pink Slip is a temporary residence permit that allows non-EU citizens to stay in Cyprus for longer than 90 days without having to make a permanent real estate investment of €300,000.

The hidden benefit: With a Pink Slip, you legally establish your residence in Cyprus. This allows you to apply for Cypriot non-resident tax status and take advantage of the 60-day rule. This means that if you meet the conditions of the 60-day rule, you pay 0% tax on your worldwide dividend income (although a small healthcare contribution applies).

In Cyprus, you also pay no tax on profits from the sale of shares and other securities. And thanks to the new Cypriot tax law of 2026, the following also applies: if you are a long-term investor in crypto, your capital gains also fall under this exemption.

Benefits of the Cyprus Pink Slip

  • Schengen Exemption: Stay in Cyprus all year round without having to worry about the strict Schengen visa limits of 90/180 days.
  • Family participation: You can easily have your partner and children (under 18) counted as family members.
  • Tax optimization: Opens the way to the non-resident tax regime.
  • Flexibility: You do not need to buy a home; a simple one-year rental agreement is sufficient to qualify.

Cyprus Pink Slip Requirements in 2026

The government does not want economic migrants with this visa; they want financially independent individuals. To successfully obtain your Pink Slip, we assist you in preparing and submitting the following strict financial evidence:

1. The income requirement:

You must demonstrate a stable, passive income from abroad of at least €2,000 per month (€24,000 per year).

Acceptable sources are: salary abroad (remote work), pensions, rental income from abroad, dividends, or interest.

Dependents: You must add 20% (€4,800 per year) for your partner and 15% (€3,600 per year) for each dependent child.

2. The bank deposit:

At the time of your application, you must be able to demonstrate a balance of at least €10,000 in a local Cypriot bank account.

3. The bank guarantee

Depending on your nationality, you may be required to deposit a small amount (ranging from €350 to €850) into a Cypriot bank account for one year to cover any repatriation costs.

Citizens of a number of countries, including the United Kingdom, the US, Canada, Australia, and most Gulf States, are exempt from this. Cyprus-Consult will inform you whether this obligation applies to you.

4. Accommodation and health:

You must submit a stamped rental agreement (for a minimum of 1 year) or a deed of purchase for the property, together with valid health insurance that covers both hospitalizations and outpatient care in Cyprus.

The Cypriot Obstacle: The Local Bank Account

You cannot obtain a Pink Slip without transferring your income of €24,000 and keeping €10,000 in a local Cypriot bank account.

In 2026, it will almost certainly lead to a rejection if you, as a non-resident, walk into a Cypriot bank and want to open an account, due to the strict anti-money laundering (AML) regulations.

This is where Cyprus-Consult comes in. Thanks to our established relationships with local bank managers and our compliance team, we check your profile in advance and expedite the opening of your bank account.

We handle the declaration of the origin of your assets, so that you can make your deposits without hassle and obtain your Pink Slip without delay.

Can you work in Cyprus with a Pink Slip?

No, you cannot work for a local Cypriot employer.

The Pink Slip is, strictly speaking, a “visitor’s permit”. You are not allowed to take a job and compete on the Cypriot labor market.

However, you are completely free to:

  • To work remotely for your own company or an employer outside Cyprus.
  • To live off passive income (dividends, rental income, pensions).
  • To do business locally or internationally through a company.

Although you cannot work as an employee, you may be a shareholder of a Cypriot company and receive dividends.

If your goal is to actively send invoices to customers and optimize your corporate tax to 15%, you can combine your Pink Slip with our company formation in Cyprus.

The Cyprus Pink Slip is a temporary, annually renewable residence permit for non-EU citizens. It enables individuals with sufficient passive foreign income (such as remote workers, pensioners, or investors) to reside legally in Cyprus for longer than 90 days and activate their tax residency (Non-Dom status) without having to make a major real estate investment.

No, you are not allowed to work locally for a Cypriot employer with a Pink Slip. The permit is legally classified as a “Visitor’s Permit.” However, you are 100% legally allowed to work remotely for foreign clients or employers outside Cyprus, or live off passive income such as foreign dividends, crypto profits, or pensions.

The processing of a Cyprus Pink Slip application typically takes 3 to 6 months from the date of submission. However, once you have submitted your documents to the immigration service and received your official receipt, you are fully legally allowed to remain in Cyprus while awaiting the decision, even if your standard 90-day tourist visa has already expired.

The main difference is nationality. The Pink Slip is a temporary residence permit for one year, which is renewable and intended exclusively for non-EU citizens who must demonstrate that they have sufficient foreign income. The Yellow Slip is a registration certificate, exclusively for citizens of the EU and the EEA, which is much easier to obtain, grants the right to work locally, and does not need to be renewed annually.

As a non-EU citizen (such as a British or American citizen), you can generally stay in Cyprus as a tourist for a maximum of 90 days within a 180-day period. If you wish to stay longer than 90 days, you must apply for a temporary residence permit (Pink Slip) before your tourist visa expires.

Once your application has been submitted to the Civil Registry and Migration Office (CRMD), you will receive a receipt with a reference number. You can check the status of your Pink Slip online via the official Cypriot immigration SMS service or by sending an email with your application reference number to the Migration Office.

(Please note: when you submit an application via Cyprus-Consult, our legal team monitors this status for you daily).

Yes, that is possible, but it does not happen automatically. After 5 years of uninterrupted legal residence in Cyprus, you can apply for a long-term residence permit. This is a separate application procedure with its own conditions.

If you ultimately wish to apply for Cypriot nationality, the following requirements apply: 12 months of continuous residence immediately prior to the application, plus 7 years of residence in the preceding 10 years, totaling 8 years, supplemented by a sufficient level of Greek (B1) and knowledge of the socio-political situation in Cyprus. Upon approval, you will receive a full EU passport.

If your Cyprus Pink Slip application is rejected, you will receive an official letter stating the exact reason, usually due to insufficient bank balance, incorrect health insurance, or an invalid rental contract.

You typically have 15 to 30 days to leave the island or to lodge an official appeal (recourse) through a lawyer. Therefore, it is crucial to process your application directly through a party like Cyprus-Consult, so that your file is complete and accurate from day one.

The government fees for a Pink Slip application are relatively low: €70 application fees and another €70 for initial registration as a foreign national. However, take into account costs for a local bank guarantee (€350 to €850), private health insurance (approximately €175+), and legal costs for the application and opening a bank account.
