Cyprus Airports Overview

In addition to the two international airports in the south, Cyprus also has Ercan Airport in the Turkish north (only accessible via Turkey and not recognized by the EU), the closed Nicosia Airport in the UN buffer zone, and several military airports such as Akrotiri (RAF) and Tymbou (Turkish Air Force).

  • Largest airport in Cyprus
  • Easily accessible by highway (30 min from Limassol)

Paphos International Airport (PFO)

  • Smaller airport, mainly charter and holiday traffic
  • Close to coastal towns such as Paphos and Coral Bay

Ercan Airport (ECN) – Northern Cyprus

  • Not internationally recognized, only accessible via Turkey
  • Used by residents of the northern part
  • Flights via Istanbul, Ankara or Izmir

Nicosia Airport

  • Abandoned airport in the UN buffer zone
  • Closed since the 1974 conflict
  • Historically important, but no longer in use

Larnaca or Paphos Airport?

Cyprus has two major airports in the south:

  • Larnaca Airport (LCA): largest airport, more scheduled flights, often more expensive tickets.
  • Paphos Airport (PFO): smaller, popular with low-cost airlines such as Ryanair.

Both are fine choices, but depending on where you depart, price and convenience can vary greatly.

Brussels Airport (Zaventem)

  • Daily flights to Larnaca with Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines.
  • Direct to Paphos with Ryanair (especially in summer months).

Charleroi Airport

  • Cheaper alternative, especially Ryanair to Paphos.
  • Sometimes transfer via Milan or Budapest.
